The Right Cape
When I was young
I believed I could fly.
I was determined that if I got
The right pair of shoes
And the best cape,
I could be superman.
I was searching forever.
I found a cape
And a pair of black Nikes
I told my mom I was going
To fly.
I put on my cape,
My superman shirt,
A pair of red shorts.
I jumped off my patio,
Flying, spinning, soaring through the air.
But I landed without going anywhere.
I tried again.
This time—
I landed.
And broke my collarbone.
Now that I’m older,
I believe that flying is
Fictitious.
Unless
I find the right cape….
