My Human Cane
This is a poem to my brother Jose
Whom I will thank until the day I leave.
Whom I lean on,
Whose example is equal to none.
You screwed up
And I learned.
When I stumbled
I leaned on you.
When everyone turned their back
You faced me.
I was on the wrong path,
I was screwing up again.
My life was slipping away
And you caught me.
You mentored me through.
You don’t know this,
But you are the reason I am here
You dragged me out of the dark hole.
You are the cane any old man needs.
