A Day on the Lake
There is nothing better than a day on the lake,
when the water lies perfectly still,
like a sheet of glass.
The sun rises in the early morning sky,
as I slowly paddle out to the middle.
Each stroke disrupts the water slightly,
sending out ripples that appear to carry on for miles.
I look into the bucket of worms.
Each one, a lottery ticket,
hope that I pick the winner.
The cast sails into the horizon,
the stress in my body slowly dwindles.
My mind focuses on the red and white sphere,
as it dances along the surface of the water,
anticipating that one big hit.
Some days, a single pound,
others, a monstrous eight.
Regardless,
there is nothing better than a day on the lake.
