I’ve been sitting wordlessly
Waiting for a thought
To protrude in front of me

I’ve been contesting
Your expectations
Yet I’m still unheard

I’ve had nothing
Except my feet
Holding me up
My heart does not hold
The things it should
No empathy
Nor love
No misery
Nor memory

It’s startling to think
How the days pass by
It’s a clock
Ticking beneath my chest
Reminding me to try
Till I get it right
I wait
