Wilting

Wilting
Show our vibrant, radiant colors
Covered in velvet
Embellished with thorns
We get stepped on
Lost in a never ending crowd
Shredded and trampled
Torn away from our roots
We are put on display
Our pride cut down
Stuck and arranged
Looking at the world,
From behind glass.
Beautiful in the light
But closed up in dark times
Confused whether the familiar rain
Is a threat or a blessing
They pass by
Secretly admiring
Quickly forgetting
That us flowers are wilting away

The author's comments:
I was given a bouquet of roses for my birthday and they were beautiful. A few days went by, and the excitement of my birthday was wearing off, and the flowers were wilting. The flowers were cut to be beautiful, killed to be beautiful, thrown away because they were no longer good enough. And although they were already dead, I felt bad to waste them.
