"My life is my message." -Unknown

That fight you call teenage rebellion,
That fight you refuse to back down from,
That fight, that fight is me.
It’s me being who I was raised to be.
Strong and independent and unwavering.
That fight you call disrespectful,
That fight you say tarnishes the family name,
That fight, that fight is me.
It’s the responsible adult I’ve always been, and will always be.
That fight you limit,
That fight you restrict,
That fight is the creativity I was born with.
That fight is the passion and longing to be who I want to be,
Not who you expect me to be.
That fight you endure unwillingly,
That fight, that fight is ME.
Your daughter.
And I promise you this, Dad,
I will fight ‘till the bitter end.

The author's comments:
This poem is to my Dad. I wrote it when I was going through a tough time balancing out the person I am, and the person he wanted me to be. I ultimately decided that I'll be me no matter what he says or does, and he'll just have to accept that regardless. I'm his daughter and he needs to love me for me.
