Lost at Sea

I am a ship,
Lost at sea,
With nowhere to set my anchor,
Nowhere to fasten my ropes.

Just a small ship,
Lost in a vast ocean,
Tossed among the waves
Flung from side to side
By wind, waves
Beyond my control.

If I never return to home port,
Will anyone send a rescue boat
To search in desperation
For a small ship
Lost at sea?
I wish they would.

I float helplessly
Across this expanse of unknown
Hoping a rescue boat will come,
A boat that has been searching for days
That will not cease to search
Until I have been found.
A boat that cares about a small ship,
Lost at sea.

But while I wait, I wait in fear.
For deep inside I fear:
I fear that this boat will never come.
I fear that I am insignificant.
I fear that
Among ships,
There are others to fulfill my duties.
I fear that I will not be found
Because no one wants to find me.

I am a ship,
Lost at sea,
With nowhere to set my anchor,
Nowhere to fasten my ropes.

Just a small ship,
Lost in a vast ocean,
Tossed among the waves
Flung from side to side
By wind, waves
Beyond my control.

What’s a small ship to do,
Lost in a vast ocean?
I must wait,
Wait and hope that one day,
A rescue boat will come.

I hope your rescue boat comes soon. Hint: You are your own rescue boat.
