Crossroads

I miss you more than I thought I would,
Mere inches are miles away
But when you won’t help me close the distance
It’s not really “a-okay.”

But by and by my hold released
And my mind no longer drifts
I don’t pretend that I like it
But it’s only increased the rift

You’re not coming back, this I know,
But that doesn’t stop my hope
‘Tho slowly over quite some time,
I’ve slowly learned to cope

Can’t deny it, it’s a fact
And slowly I believe it
But all I want is now in the past,
No longer how I see fit

You’ll forget and as will I,
I’ll kiss some frogs and toads,
But never will I find regret
Those days when we crossed roads
