They all take their places at the beginning of the course
and wait for the gun that will initiate the race.

As soon as they hear the crack they shoot across the starting line
like a herd of horses yearning to be free.

They run through forests and trees, across grassy meadows and fields.
They run up and down immense hills, yet they do not stop.

They keep running even when their calves start to burn
And they can’t seem to get enough air.

They don’t stop even when the sweat is dripping off their faces
And their body is fighting them every step of the way.

When they near the finish line they strive to be the first to cross over the gleaming white line that was painted on just for that moment.

Although many will lose they will always get back up and try again,
for they are runners and they never give up.
