A Reader’s Escape

Escaping to read, read to escape
Escape into fantasy
To discover, to believe
Wishing, hoping, longing
Not worth going back

Tired
Of being responsible
Of being respectful
Of being reasonable

Running
From the destruction
From the pain
From the fight

The fear of reality bears down
The struggle
The never-ending war to succeed

Lost in dreams
Trapped inside
Can’t escape
Won’t escape
Shutting it all out
It’s easier
To read
To imagine

Until all there is
Is the next page
