Shattered Chains

listen to the thunder roll
a beating heart
a battered toll
listen to the lightning crack
just like the whip and the sting on your back
listen to the rain, it cries
it cries from lies that i defied
it pours and it's sore...
tears of sadness?
everything but
i have broken free of this web and everyone should listen now!
listen to my skies roar!
and oh, oh how they roar
they shout out from the darkest caves
for within darkness i found beauty
and exposed it
carved it from the marble of my soul
and let it free
gave it life
let it feed
gave it a name
Victory
over Hate
over Pain
over Anguish
over Strain
i have vanquished all the insane
the insane words, the nouns the verbs
that ran through my head on an apathetic treadmill
these vibrant lies these shouts at me...from me...
i have silenced all!
don't ask me how
don't ask me when
don't you dare say wow
all i was looking for was oxygen
it is no great feat to seek one's own survival
and i was dying
and i needed to survive
so i called upon this deepened tool that had been locked away like some words we don't say
the greatest tool of all
some call it joy
some call it the world's greatest lock
some call it neverending
some never call it at all...
happiness
listen to it
it's in the skies
in the lightning
in the thunder
and oh
oh how it rolls
it forever rolls

i am caught with an extreme case of envy. Not only will i never write like this------but i have NEVER seen anyone who takes the word "poetry" and weaves into a masterpiece with just one message attached (sorry i had to get that out :) )

Reading this was like opening a door to a world i never knew (well thats how good it is) do you want to be a poet as a career? So far you are the best poet i know------this is AMAZING. Every word of it :) P.S. i rated it

well, the best poet i know on this site, anyway.

i think you will make a heck of a phychiatrist (if thats how you spell it) i mean it. That'd be good for you also. You're mature, friendly, and give VERY good advice..........yeah, i can imagine you as a very successful physchiatrist too.

Great piece of work. It has a rythm just random enough so that its not sing-song, but regular enough so that when you break from it for the dramatic point-maker "Victory/over hate/over pain/over anguish/ over strain/ i have vanquished all the insane" Its that much more resonant. Of course, it could always be better, so keep it up!
