What My Heart Asks For

I wish you would come back,
And haunt my footsteps once again.
You gave me a reason to be,
And a reason to die.

Everyday I come back,
To an empty house,
Empty bed,
Broken chains.

I remember that day,
That you left me,
For something,
That escapes my mind.

The drawers were empty,
The sheets were smooth,
The pillow gathered dust,
And I sat there on the edge,

Now I think about how we were,
And how we used to be,
But they don’t matter anymore,
Because we don’t exist.

The hole is still there,
Where I punched the wall,
Out of anger,
Because life was so difficult.

And I look at the empty space,
And tears come to my eyes,
Blurring my sight,
After years of holding it all in.

The room still smells of you,
And every time I breathe,
You’re still there walking in the door,
With blood upon your hands...
