"Oh, screw beautiful! I'm brilliant! If you want to appease me, compliment my brain!" -Dr. Christina Yang, Greys Anatomy

You are born a seed.

And you grow, becoming a sprout poking your head out, taking a peek at life,

And you grow and you become a flower, beautiful, lively, untouched, perfect,

And now that you are older you start to touch, and be touched,

And now a petal falls, from your flower to the ground where it rots away,

It happens again,

Another petal falls,

And another,

And another,

And another,

Now you are a stem, with two leaves, and two petals,

All your peers are finding the bumblebee to their flower,

As you search, you are lost,

For no bee will want a flower without its petals

The author's comments:

In Pro-Abstinence sex education curriculums, the importance of virginity is harshly stressed. Teachers tend to suggest that how lovable one is/ one's worth is determined by their virginity. Students recall having their virginity compared to a petless flower, chewed gum, a stretched rubber band, etc. The "lesson" being taught is that no one will want to marry a woman who has had sex with another man. Said effort is sexist and shames women into hiding their sexuality.
