Unwanted Freedom
I am a balloon, dancing in the breeze
clinging tightly to the hands of those
around me. Floating above everyone,
watching. From their view included,
from mine I’m so far removed.
A sudden gust of wind takes me.
To them a beautiful color is now free.
To them the wind was my own ambition.
To them I was happy to be carried away.
What they couldn’t hear were my cries to
come back. What they couldn’t see was my
string desperately reaching for them. What
they couldn’t feel was the air being knocked
out of me as the space between us grew.
Like nothing happened they move on. Wishing
me the best, assuming I’m happy like they are.
Perspective changes all.
