Shadows Sound Asleep
Shadows sound asleep
Breath comes in twos
For silence is fragile,
Cradle it like a child
In throes of asphyxia.
Embracing death
Should you cease nurture.
Footsteps creak on mahogany
You curse lest the baby wakes
To find air whooshing,
Spirits brushing away at her feet
Succumbing to a reign of noise,
To woeful abandon
Of the morning sky.
She's a woman of night
Cassiopeia amongst stars
For she rules at three,
A graveyard
Of forgotten dreams.
A lover to those sound asleep.
She's a warrior
For we break her,
And she persists.
Every fleeting night,
She wins.
