Poison Apple
O apple, how could they just leave you there,
next to a stack of white papers
with red slashes scribbled from side to side?
Your delicate, bruised skin,
manhandled by tiny children
who gift you at the start of every year.
Those sparse, speckled, white spots
sink behind the sorrowful brown dents,
as the mush continues to infest.
Not loved nor consumed—simply chucked into a garbage chute.
