True heroes are among us,
You just need to know where to look.

The brave men and women who dive into fires,
Risking immense pain,
To save our loved ones,
Are the true heroes.

The marathon spectators,
Who resisted the urge to flee,
To assist those in need,
Are the true heroes.

The kind people,
Who help the blind cross the street,
While others pass by,
Are the true heroes.

The courageous women,
Who stand up to their rapists,
Refusing to be violated,
Are the true heroes.

These people are not famous;
They are not millionaires.
They are just ordinary Americans,
Doing extraordinary things.

The author's comments:
This poem is honor of all of the brave people who stepped up in a time of need. They may not have been on the nightly news or in the newspaper, but these people are the ones who truly make America the greatest country on earth.
