Waves of the Earth

I see the rolling waves of earth
the ground augmenting in and out
in swells to shame a picture frame
I glide as softly as the morn

The sparrow hops so close to me
his head is bobbing up and down
why does he search so near my perch?
when I am boy an he is bird

So far apart our nests may lie
but still we stand as children of Earth
together on grassy plains forever
our worlds combine for a lonely moment

We live our lives so differently
our worlds as separate as land and sky
and yet for a minute, together we’re in it

and the sparrow is the same as I
