*^^^LET DREAMS FLY, BEFORE THEY DIE^^^*---sarah brothers

As his mom was cooking dinner
Kuran sat on his bed
Doing his homework
While singing in his head
As a teenage boy
His emotions showed rarely
It was not the tough thing to do
So emotions, he showed barely
His step father Chris
Was supposed to be working late
Kurans mom finished cooking
But for Chris they decided to wait
Time passed by
When the door made a "thunk"
Swinging wide open
It welcomed Chris, stumbling and drunk
With a bottle in his hand
He proceeded inside
Tripping over everything in his path
His eyes bloodshot and wide
He walked to Kurons mother
And grabbed her by the hair
He shoved her on the floor
And demanded she put her hands in the air
He told her she was worthless
He called her many names
Kuran felt the tears swell up
He didnt care if it was lame
Something he never noticed
Was the love he felt for his mother
It was a strong feeling of protection
As for feelings, it was like no other
Chris began to hit his mother
Until he reached in his coat
He pulled out a handgun
Kurons heart bagn to float
He ran to his mother
Filled with anger and tears
Protecting her from the bullet
And to chris he made it clear
"You will not shoot her
That will not be
If you wish to harm someone
Instead just shoot me"
Silence filled the fearful room
Until the shot was made
Kuron was full of fierce pain
In his mothers arms he laid
Tears streamed from his mothers eyes
Falling onto his face
Three words slipped out of his mouth
Then he traveled to a better place
Away from all the danger
A place to watch over his mother
Away from that harmful man
This time the love for his mother
Was truly like no other

"Don't punish yourself," she heard her say again, but there would be punishment and pain, and there would be happiness too. That was writing."

I like it! I thought it was kinda funny that when he talked to his stepfather he rhymed. I know it was part of the poem, but I don't think a person would really think and talk in rhymes in times of a crisis. But the poem itself is serious and interesting.
