Chasing Childhood | Teen Ink

Chasing Childhood MAG

By Anonymous

I had a dream last night
Where I saw childhood run away.
I chased it ’til I could no more
And everything faded to gray

What happened to the picnics?
Cotton candy at the fair?
Nobody goes anymore
Too busy to even care

Where are the dress-up clothes?
Trips for ice cream after school?
Now we’re doing homework
Or pretending not to, if you’re cool

I woke up the next morning
Wondering why I was so blue
And I realized it was no dream
I let childhood go too soon.

Amazing. It really makes you think about how time is passing.

this is a really good peom. Most people waste their childhood dreaming about the future but once the future comes they are stuck dreaming about the childhood they wish they had

wow. this is an amazing piece. i think a lot of people (including myself) can't wait to be "grown up" but the moment they realize they are...they wish for the innocence of childhood again! you did an unbelievable job capturing all the emotion and writing it perfectly :) the flow was amazing. the content was awesome! 5 stars!!! :) check out some of my work if you could, i would really appreciate your opinion. once again...im stunned by this piece! :) BRAVO!

This piece is amazingly moving!

I think a lot of teens can relate to the fact that they have let their childhood slip away and are trying to grow up too fast. Also, I like the lines " Where are the dress-up clothes?

The trips for ice-cream after school?" because I think it describes the feelings of childhood perfectly and it has an in-depth meaning. I think that you should grasp and welcome childhood because once it is gone, it can never come back. Most people say that childhood was the best time in their lives, and I think this is true. When you are young, you don't have to worry about things like taxes, the government, and the stress of every day situations of adulthood. Childhood is a time to be carefree and enjoy life, and this poem describes this exactly. Well done! Keep writing!

I think we all let childhood slip away from us, wanting to grow up it makes us forget what we should have been, children till time said no more, we decided to grow up to fast and now we want it back, we want our childhood back.

i can rele understand what you mean in this piece...cause well it's like it really is true cause honestly none cares bout life or matter of fact childhood..cause if your a child then all you want to happen is for you to grow up the very next day... so i really like this piece....good job...
