Old Friends

I have this friend,
This friend of mine,
I ask what's wrong,
She's says she's fine,

But I don't believe her,
She's not the same,
Not her old self,
It's such a shame,

She used to be,
Bright, happy and fun,
She would laugh and bounce,
And smile a ton,

But gone is the light,
Of her old happy smile,
And energy that,
Would go on for miles,

Nothing is left,
Of the person I know,
Why aren't they here?
And where did she go?

It's painful for me,
To sit by and watch,
When it's easy to see,
She needs me so much,

But when I reach out,
To answer her call,
She pushes me away,
And builds up a wall,

I cry, I beg, I plead,
Just let me in,
I care about you,
Because you're my friend.

The poem itself, the words, were average, I think, but it captured the feeling really well.  So many people can relate, including myself.  Overall, I liked it.

I can completely relate to this poem. I think I am the person the friend is trying to reach in this poem. I struggle with depression, and my friends is always trying to help me. It's tough for both people in that type of situation.

This is sad, I've felt this way involving a friend before too. I just always let her know i was there but stopped trying to push through that wall. She's not all the way better now but she is part way better.. It can be hard. You did a good job capturing it in this poem.

"You know you’re a writer if your friend tells you a heartbreaking story and your first reaction is – wow, that would make an incredible plot for a novel. You know you’re a smart writer if you manage to keep that reaction to yourself."

WOW i totaly relate to that. Im going through the exact same thing
