Chasing Childhood This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

By
I had a dream last night
Where I saw childhood run away.
I chased it ’til I could no more
And everything faded to gray

What happened to the picnics?
Cotton candy at the fair?
Nobody goes anymore
Too busy to even care

Where are the dress-up clothes?
Trips for ice cream after school?
Now we’re doing homework
Or pretending not to, if you’re cool

I woke up the next morning
Wondering why I was so blue
And I realized it was no dream
I let childhood go too soon.

I have to disagree with everybody when they say that is was perfect. I think that you kind of threw off the rhyme scheme on the last verse, when I read it I kinda felt like someone jabbed me with thier finger. But otherwise keep up the good work! It's better than a lot of my stuff! I love the subject you chose, I think that you did a very good job of making it something relatable and it was very gereally good. I think a lot of us, myself included, can't help but wonder w... (more »)

wow. this is an amazing piece. i think a lot of people (including myself) can't wait to be "grown up" but the moment they realize they are...they wish for the innocence of childhood again! you did an unbelievable job capturing all the emotion and writing it perfectly :) the flow was amazing. the content was awesome! 5 stars!!! :) check out some of my work if you could, i would really appreciate your opinion. once again...im stunned by this piece! :) BRAVO!

This piece is amazingly moving!
I think a lot of teens can relate to the fact that they have let their childhood slip away and are trying to grow up too fast. Also, I like the lines " Where are the dress-up clothes?
The trips for ice-cream after school?" because I think it describes the feelings of childhood perfectly and it has an in-depth meaning. I think that you should grasp and welcome childhood because once it is gone, it can never come back. Most people say that ch... (more »)

I think we all let childhood slip away from us, wanting to grow up it makes us forget what we should have been, children till time said no more, we decided to grow up to fast and now we want it back, we want our childhood back.
