New Beginnings

May 10, 2010
By Anonymous

It hasn’t always been this way
I remember those brighter days
Before the dark came and stole my mind
Now there’s not a way out that I can find
I live among the brain dead
Fighting these voices in my head
Hoping someone hears me crying,
But nobody is even trying
My soul is wrapped in chains
Nothing to lose, but everything to gain
Somebody help set me free
From these chains restraining me
Is anybody out there listening?
My mind isn’t yet done mending
Sometimes I’ll win, and sometimes I’ll lose,
And along the way I will be bruised
Now that I am no longer baked,
I realize I have made some mistakes,
But I have changed. I’m on a different path
For this poem it may just be the ending,
But for my life, it’s a new beginning

I originally wrote this for a friend I had just met who was hooked on more drugs than any other addict I had ever met, but it also relates to my past drug history...
