Writing
I've always been told
 Writing should be like "this"
 Look like "this"
 And sound like "this"
Listening to teachers rambling on about rhyming
 Gave me head aches
 Getting essays back
Having to get grades on them
 Didn't seem fair
It was like my thoughs were
Being shut out of the sunlight,
unable to grow in my fertile mind
 Being told by teacher,
 "No this isn't right"
 Made me mad
So mad I wanted to write "badly"
I wanted to "break the rules" in writing
Like my teachers said not to
 The more I wrote "badly"
 the more I enjoyed writing
The quicker things came to me
I saw the world in a different way
 But my teachers didn't approve
They washed away my rebellious brain
 Well, tried to anyway
I almost decided to give up
 Give in
 To my teachers' criticism
But what fun would that be?
Finally, I experimented with my writing
 Then, it all cliqued together
Writing is like a mosaic puzzle
With different shapes and colors you have to put together to figure out
 I decided
There is no good or bad writing
 Or right or wrong
Writing is your thoughts and feelings
And how well you are able to put them on paper.
If only reading the directions on my homework "right" was so easy
But then I wouldn't have written this.

congrats Lindsey
