I Tried To Write You A Poem
I tried to give you something to hold on to
when everything else let go
no, not silver or gold
nothing tangible, but control
I tried to pick you up
when you were in the ground
struggling to stand on your own
but gravity held you down
I tried to give you color
when your world was black and white
everything was monotonous
but the absence or presence of light
I tried to give you comfort
when you needed to console
I tried to be warmth
when you were cold
I tried to be pleasure
when you were in pain
I tried to be reason
when you weren't sane
I tried to be the oxygen
when you couldn't breathe
I tried for you
when you didn't try for me
I tried to hold steady
when you started to sway
I tried to endure your midnight when you abandoned my day
I tried to hold things together when you let them fall apart
I tried to give you a gift
when you denied it
it hurt
I tried to write you a poem
