my greatest fear

It’s my own sick fairy tale
I’m the princess in the tower
I’m the one who can’t go to the ball
the one that hides away in the forest
the one that can’t see the great unknown
I’m stuck in a room full of straw
expected to make it all fine gold
but I fear my fairy tale won’t have a happy ending

I’m the bird chained to the ground
my wings have been savagely clipped
I’m caged behind the doors of limits
and I dream of my own freedom.
the freedom that I fear won’t come

my feet are frozen in one place
not meant to run - and be free
not meant to leave
to leave this life of tears
no, I fear, I’m stuck here
only to dream, as far as the land stretches out before me

where it goes, I fear, I will not go. . . .

This poems does a beautiful job of conveying its message of desperation and longing. The comparisons are excellent and I like how it all flows.
