Panic Attack
I am an ocean of anxiety;
drowning in the hope that one day
Waves won’t crash over my head
Like opportunities I can’t hold on to
As I sink farther,
Deeper,
Darker,
The pressure in my lungs builds
People watch me suffer as they swim on by
The water hides my heavy stream of tears
Children laughing, splashing
I wonder why they don’t see me gasping for air
Carrying more weight than my own
I forget how to tread water
I created this piece to show the realistic mental damage anxiety can cause. I want anxiety to be treated as a real problem that a large percent of teens suffer from.
