I am a beatnik poet:
I stand on the street
And protest the government
Politicians, hate, greed
War and rent

I protest the country that applauds a wealthy man
I protest the President but mostly Uncle Sam
I protest hate crimes, segregation, and racial slurs
My white friends and I are going to change the world

‘Cause I protest large
I scream for peace
And wave my signs
Right at the policemen
Dragging me away

“One of your kind”
He shakes his head and I ask
“What kind? The 8 to 5?
The empty minds?
The daily grind?
No.
I am a beatnik poet
And I stand on the street
And change the world.”
