Flying
Spaced out, can’t concentrate
The day has been a blur
This frustration you can’t sedate
Too many bad things occur
Brother’s been deployed, friends can’t get along
Parents bicker, argue and swear
You’ll go insane before long
And then you see him standing there
Red coat, bright eyes, no hair is gray
Strong, sturdy, tall and fair
Tack sits waiting anyway
Strain fades as you ride who-knows-where
Shouting “giddy up”, holding tight, hair rising
Riding towards the sunset
You’ve no wings, but you’re flying
Riding through a cloud
Across the sky you plow
Never more to be earthbound
But you’ll be back anyhow
After the pain’s left on the ground
