Fear of Public Speaking
Have you ever looked death in the eye?
‘Cause I haven’t, but I’ve had to look you in the eye
And honestly I’d rather look death in the eye than you
‘Cause death doesn’t care what I look like
How I speak
How I sound
Death can read my thoughts but you can’t so I’m forced to stand up
And speak it all in front of you
But when I’m pushed onto the stage
I fall to my knees
Why is it that I can handle you in groups of 3 or 4
But not all of you at once?
You can be my best friend, my partner, my mother
Yet when I stand up there
It’s like I don’t know any of you and
All I see is judgement and hate in your eyes
And my heart hurts so much I can’t speak
My throat closes up
My hands begin to tremble
And I wonder what I did to deserve this
Because honestly I’d rather look death in the eye than you
