Retirement
The wind rustles an old home's shingles
The clinking of yard decor makes your skin tingle
In each of these homes there is an untold story
Two lovers whose passion has much glory
A love that has lasted a lifetime
It has wIthstood slime, grime, and crime
The couple settled down in a community with people like themselves
Pictures of loved ones collect dust on the shelves
The people converse in daily chats
They sip coffee and feed the feral cats
Always relaxed, never stressed
Claiming that retirement is the best

This poem is a couplet that I wrote for a poetry project last year. It was inspired by a visit to my grandparents' retirement home in New Port Richey. I hope it helps people better understand the life of retired citizens and how they can better appreciate them.
