Pinstripes will do the job
nicely for the first day,
for holding calls of avant-garde
or filing chic modernism.
A woven bun to restrain those strands
of hair otherwise fallen, unknowingly,
into donuts of a lifetime's dedication.
Even those low heels worn, I'm sure,
to elevate the persona, accent the confidence,
are only really helping you avoid
reaching for the back corner of that top shelf.
But don't worry kid, it's not all so bad.
You've got one thousand six hundred and sixty
hours of education, minutes of knowledge,
seconds of personal development. You
just have to pull yourself up, inch by inch,
the rope splayed like the fingers of a child
standing eager by the kitchen table
waiting for the first cut.
