It is like a gateway
to the future
where I want to be.

I look at it everyday
wondering to myself
when I will soon be there.

It is a reminder of
the people I want to help
the people I want to save.

I look at the dogs
longing for a big companion
working by my side.

People tell me
“You can’t be a police officer.”
“You are a girl, you aren’t strong enough.”

That pushes me farther
to prove them wrong
to prove me right.

I will be a police officer.

I will have a k-9 by my side.

I will succeed.

It is who I want to be
no one
will change my mind.
