Hazy Headlights
Standing on the moist gravel
Whipped by running water
Racing through the air
Red lights reflect across the wet ground
And I wait to cross the lines
When I see you
Covered by black
As light means nothing
And you laugh
Reflexively, I run
But you hit the pedal like it means nothing
And everything goes hazy
I hear the radios
And purring engines
And see lights flashing
Next, I'm in a hospital bed
On a flashlight
And you stand by my bedside
Sober
But it's too late for that
