In my dream
I floated among the clouds
I was numbered with the stars
I rose higher and higher
Above the sounds of the
City
Above the jealousy
The unkindness
The fears
The worries
The want to try to fit it
I rose above it all
And forgot it
Because there
Up in the sky
I found something worthwhile
A feeling resided there
Peace and hope
A chance to be something better
A place to rise above the world
And the faults of its people
Because
As I soared higher
My thoughts became clearer
And I saw
For once
A new light I'd never seen
And I felt that I had a way
To be something better
And I wasn't afraid to be myself

And then I woke up
I was no longer soaring, free
And wild
I was no longer fearless as I had been
Nor careless and free
Now my thoughts were focused on how to be someone else.
I could no longer soar and be myself.
No
Only in my dreams

The author's comments:
This is fiction, but it can be true for so many teens. Once, a while back, I had trouble with being myself, and I focused on trying to be like the more popular kids. I just wanted to express how it feels to really be yourself. If you let go of what the world is trying to tell you, you are free, and you feel like you're flying. It is an amazing feeling.
