Suspended Thoughts

Noise.
So much, and all clamoring to be
heard,
begging to be acknowledged
like small children
pressing in around me.
Breathing down my neck,
Whispering to me
Calling my name,
Shouting, and screaming!
White noise, full to the brim.
A whirling,
Spinning,
song of everything
I do not hear any of it.
It is just the
Background.
It is just a mindless, humming din.
Noise.
So much more than
Silence.
Oppressive, bitter, weighted
Silence.
Full of everything.
Thoughts hang suspended
Like clouds floating above our heads.
They rain down around us.
Brushing our shoulders,
Caressing our cheeks.
Silence, as loud as noise.
Silence, as soft as the flutter of a bird's wing,
Across the open sky.
Silence.
Nothing more than that.
