Someone Else
Why do people try to be something they’re not?
A tulip does not try to be a rose
And an oak tree does not try to be a maple
Even if they could change, they wouldn’t
They are content with what’s been given them
So why aren’t people content?
They try to be someone else
Someone they can’t be
Someone wealthier
Someone smarter
Someone more artistic or more athletic or more important
Imagine how wonderful the world would be, if everyone was themselves!
I want a world like that
Where there’s no such thing as not fitting in
I would love a world like that
Because, I too, am guilty of trying to be someone else
