The Perils of Sonnet

December 27, 2008

When to the aggression of confusing thought

I force myself to memorize Sonnet

But sigh as its presence begins to rot

In the coils of my tangled brain

Then can I drown in my lovely bathtub

And not think about the dreadful day

When my teacher calls me a useless grub

For not memorizing this word today

Then can I grieve over mournful grades

That will follow me to my grave

And forever weep as the twilight fades

Making day into night’s slave.

But if I memorize…to the bitter end
This word shall become a faithful friend.

Perhaps the most difficult task for me in AP English class was trying to understanding the concept of producing a sonnet. After rigorously studying the making of a sonnet, I was finally able to come up with my own. Enjoy.
