There’s thrill and excitement in barrel racing.
It’s simply the wings that spread when you go through the open gate.
It’s the wind blowing on your face and your friends cheering you on,
Pushing you and your horse faster and faster at an unbelievable speed through the mesmerizing, yet simple pattern
It’s the rhythm that you form as you run with unrecognizable speed and determination.
It’s the beat of two hearts as one in an endangering race against the clock around three barrels flashing past.
It’s the understanding and love shared between two siblings,
Both of god’s creation.
It’s the unknown life of a barrel racer.
Unpredictable,
Misunderstood,
And most of all

I actually wrote this piece at a barrel race. I was trying to think of a submission topic for my English class and it all of a sudden hit me. I really love horses. They take up practically my whole life. This piece is dedicated to my barrel horse Mellow, whom I love with out a doubt.
