DROWNING IN MY THOUGHTS

Drowning in my thoughts
Searching for the answers
Crying out for help but no one ever listens
Death’s coming way too fast so I have to make time last
I must choose the right path
For I am fading fast

Drowning in my thoughts
Searching for the answers
Slowly sinking deeper in my haunting dreams
All my quiet whispers turning into screams
My life is on the line as I sink deeper in the pain
Scouring deep within till I unravel this obscurity
Killing all my happiness, till I shriek and shout
Making me want to find a painful way out
Loosing sight of the surface, grabbing towards the light, maybe I can make it, maybe I will be all right

Drowning in my thought searching for the answers
Hunting for the key that will save me
My world crashing down
I don’t know how to swim
Depression swallowing me whole
Scarring my wrists till I am old

Drowning in my thoughts searching for the answers
My tears turn into the deep blue sea that is sinking me
Knowing that I must, I dry my eyes
I am terrified, and it is fear that I despise

The water starts to calm as I learn to swim
Concentrating with all my might, I fight a little harder so I will be all right
I swim a little further up towards the light
My hand breaks through the water
And darkness turns to light
Familiar faces surround me and I know I will be
Okay
Because it’s a brand new day

Drowning in my thoughts
Searching for the answers
Emerging from the water is not as simple, as it seems
But I know I can make it if I focus on my dreams
I know I will survive as long as I have you
Now I am okay now I am not alone
And I have a peaceful place that I can call my home
I am still learning how to swim
Although the waters deep
I know I can get better
For I have you forever

Erica - this poem has powerful imagery and is very moving. I love how not only the words but the whole structure of the poem resembles the experience of overcoming a near drowning experience.
