My Dark Night

November 24, 2008
By Emily Morten, Sergeant Bluff, IA

Laying down under my shielding blankets, I stare straight into the darkness of my room
Curling up for comfort
Time to relax
My mind starts to wonder
Thinking about my days. And the previous.
Should I have done that? Should I have said this?
Feeling myself getting more sleepy...
I develop more thoughts.
Thoughts of all kinds
I toss and turn several times.
It seems like hours have passed.
I just want to sleep.
Opening my eyes I see
once again, the darkness.
And let out a breath of frustration
Let's try this again.
I whisper to myself.
I close my eyes one more time
Go to sleep, Dark Night
