It Doesn't Matter

‘How’s school?’ he asks.
‘Fine’ I say,
even though it isn’t.
‘Teachers treating you all right?’
‘Sure’ I say,
even though it doesn’t matter.
Nothing matters
as I walk home
wishing on cars
and making up poems in my head.
