Night Hunger

November 2, 2008
By Maggie Gorman, Marshall, VA

Sleepless night,
wild eyes,
moonlight child.

Did the stars tell you a secret?

Midnight ink,
make this your story.
Cosmic whisper,
your breath slowly slipping.

Hands on a belly full of air,
sinking, sinking.

Sleeping out, spilling away.
Secrets, troubles,
into the night.

Sleepless night,
tranquil eyes.

Letting go of residual lies,
tonight I clear the slate,
I create.

Why do we flourish in deprivation?
