Being A Freshmen

The Academy is a great place
to be enrolled into
if you don’t mind tons of homework
not getting enough sleep
so be prepared
if you don’t mind the long hours
now and then
just when everything is good
because even in heaven
they don’t sing
all the time

The Academy is a great place
to be enrolled into
if you don’t mind some heart breaking
all the time
or maybe only half breaking
some of the time
which isn’t half as bad
if it isn’t hurting you

Oh the Academy is a great place
to be enrolled into
if you don’t mind
a few brain fry’s
in the middle of the day
or a panic attack or two
now and then
in your classroom
or other such places
as our biology room
is avoided by
its former students
its current students
its future students
and other people

and its various contemplations
and minimal rations
and other constipations
that we are soon to
be accustomed to

Yet the Academy is the best place of all
for a lot of such things as
making school the fun scene
and getting the first boyfriend scene
and making the heartbreak scene
and joking and having inspirations
and walking everywhere
looking at everything
looking at the holy pictures
looking at the people who play a huge role in your life
and even thinking of your mean teachers (not you Mrs. Ish!)
and welcoming new people
and wearing skirts
and growing up with friends

and going to dances
dancing to new songs
and living life to the fullest
on good and bad days
in the middle of your life
and just generally
“living life”
Yes
but right in the middle of it
comes the group of
smiling college recruiters.
