What Would You Do?

Driving alone along this cold and lonely road
Dust kicking up, dawn setting in real slow
I laid my head on that musty old wheel
And threw back my arms and cried,
Oh baby, I tried to live without you
But I can’t do this anymore
I see your pretty face, just like before
And then you’re gone without a trace
Oh baby it’s been too long
What happened to our favorite song?
It’s not the same
And I’m the one you should blame
Sitting here, I try to think
What would you do?

Who thought that you would go so soon?
The doctor said you had at least a few more months
But you went that day; right at noon
No time to say goodbye
Heaven’s doors were wide open to welcome you in
It was your turn to spread your wings and fly
Yet I tried to hide from the truth
Never realizing how much I would miss you
Your life is all the proof I need
This life is not the end of our journey
Yet the tears still flow and
The pain still grows within me
Sitting here, I try to think
What would you do?

You would say everything will be alright
You would take me in your arms
And hold me tight
Never to let go. Never to say no
You can do anything, just play it smart
Hold onto that fire that burns within you
Believe it with all your heart
I’ll be right here
I love you my dear

Our spot where you and I would talk as one
With that willow tree and the place for two
It’s now just a glimpse into our past
Physically, it wasn’t made to last
They took it from you and I
That old farm house; the one you loved
I know it meant a lot to you but
They took it too
I’ve lost everything
How am I supposed to go on like this?
I’m on the brink of breaking down
Sitting here, I try to think
What would you do?

I’m sorry I couldn’t be more than what you hoped
Oh baby I tried to live without you
But without you, there’s no me
Oh yes indeed, you were right
Won’t you please come back and set me free?
I wasn’t prepared for this long, unrolling fight
And now you’re gone
You’re out of sight
Sitting here, I try to think
What would you do?

You would say everything will be alright
You would take me in your arms
And hold me tight
Never to let go. Never to say no
You can do anything, just play it smart
Hold onto that fire that burns within you
Believe it with all your heart
I’ll be right here
I love you my dear

Driving alone along this cold and lonely road
Dust kicking up, dusk setting in real slow
I laid my hands on that musty old wheel
Driving on into the setting sun
When before, the day had only begun
Who thought that you would go so soon?
But you went that day; right at noon
I see your pretty face, just like before
And then you were gone
But there’s so much more
Oh yes indeed, you were right
What was lost is now in sight

I promise you…
I’ll be everything you ever hoped for
I’ll play it smart. I believe it with all of my heart
Oh baby, I tried to live without you
Letting go is the hardest thing to do
I’ll remember our song and I’ll sing it just for you
I love you
Baby, goodnight
