- What Matters
I tossed and I turned but I couldn’t sleep
So I tried counting sheep.
One, two, three, four, five, six…
My mind was playing tricks
I kicked off my covers because I was getting hotter.
I got up and got me a glass of water.
I still couldn’t sleep; nothing was working!
I saw something dark outside lurking.
What if it was a robber? I couldn’t sleep now!
If something was stolen, Mom would have a cow!
Suddenly I heard a scratch at my door.
I reluctantly got up and opened my door.
I grabbed a porcelyn doll off of my shelf,
as I prepared to protect myself.
I opened my door and looked around,
but no one was anywhere to be found.
Then I felt something tickle my toes.
It was just my puppy Rose!
She hopped on my bed and made a circle.
She lied on my sheets, which happened to be purple.
I shut my door and lied back down.
I watched my fan go round and round.
My eyes closed and I didn’t make a peep,
and I began to drift off into a peaceful sleep.
My sleep was interrupted by my alarm.
It echoed through my head like a rooster at a farm.
I woke up and noticed Rose still sleeping on my bed.
I wearily arose and rubbed my head.
I thought back to last night with much confusion,
but I couldn’t come to a conclusion.
It felt so real or so it seemed…
Could I really not sleep, or was it a dream?
