The weak willed kids never get far,
so we’re told.
We never get far because we’re too lazy.
Were told we never get far,
that we have no ambitions.
But, do we?

How could you know that we have no ambitions
and goals in life
when you don’t even give us the time of day?

You pay attention to the strong willed kids,
the outgoing kids,
Who have a chance to succeed.
Or have money to get into the nice, fancy schools,
Like Harvard or Yale.

But what about the kids below the poverty line,
who can’t even afford food on a daily basis.
Or the kids that live in the hood
and are forced into a life full of violence.
That can’t focus on schoolwork
because they’re worried about getting killed,
instead of doing Pre- Algebra and English,
but can spit rhymes when you just give them a beat.
Or the kids who are homeless,
left hurt and alone on a random person’s doorstep,
only to be shipped off to somewhere new.
Somewhere where life isn’t like on the TV shows you watch,
where everybody is all happy and safe,
and in a warm, loving home.

Life isn’t always rainbows and butterflies,
but rather a race to get your dreams.
Reaching that life of luxury and happiness,
but you doubt yourself every step of the way.
Questioning every move you make,
because you don’t think you’re worthy,
of being happy.
Because of the choices you made.

Taking a chance for your dreams,
would only lead to failure.
So you don’t even try,
because in the end,
you think you prove them wrong,
but only prove them right.
