Can't Go Back
I see my tears,
Reflected in the mirror.
It's only a matter of time
Before I'll be handed over.
Given to a new world.
Taken from the safety of my home.
I dread leaving.
Graduation looms ahead.
Though I still have a year,
I fear it already.
My mom's face flashes through my mind.
The tears fall harder.
Only a year.
I think of my friends.
I love them, how can I leave them?
I think of my family,
All loving in their own way.
It doesn't seem possible,
I remember sitting in my preschool.
I couldn't wait to grow up.
What wouldn't I give to go back?
But, we must go forward.
The only thing forward is the future.
The future.
The most frightening thing ever.
