It Was Always More
I’ve been torn into unresolved pieces of decisions
That are left in the dust behind time which keeps on moving.
And I’ve already said how much of me I needed --
It was always more.
It was always more than this.
Swallow me whole because there isn’t much left,
Or I’ll sink into the wall where my broken soul can rest.
And maybe if I’m lucky, someone will notice me,
And how I fit into their hand so easily.
I’ve guarded my heart so it cannot break,
Happy and hurt, I don’t let love escape,
But I feel it so strongly; and what I feel now --
It was never more.
It was never more than this.
Cover my eyes so I can’t see the dark.
And I can’t lead you straight to my soon-broken heart.
And maybe if I’m lucky, you’ll find your own way,
And my heart will not have to be broken someday.
