Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen. ~ Churchill

And elderly man grew feeble.

He hands were pale and cold.

He said, "I won't remain much longer,

For I am growing old."

His dear wife stayed beside him,

And never left his bed.

She was there through all the heart-ache

And was there for his last breath.

"My husband I pray that with me you'll stay

For I cannot bear life alone.

But I know you must go and one day I know

I shall see you again before long."

She held his dying hand

With all the love that she had left.

"I will always be beside you

Until I feel your last breath."

The clouds covered the sky that morning
When his wife did finally awake.
She glanced and her loving husband
And his last breath he then did take.
She lay beside him like she said,
And never left his bed.
She held his cold, dead hand
Until she, too, drew her last breath.

I wanted to do something personal and something people could relate to, so hopefully that is conveyed in this poem.
